Microblog Monday: Photography Scavenger Hunt

#21 A photograph of you with something representing the season
I joined in on my first photo scavenger hunt the summer of 2014.  I got a lot of enjoyment out of capturing the photos and triumphantly crossing them off the list.

I wanted to participate again this year and after much searching found a similar photography scavenger hunt hosted by Mary-Lou at Patio Postcards.

The Rules are simple: find the list of items and photograph them between June 1st & September 30th, 2017 (no using any photos taken before June 1st).  Simply print the list and starting finding the photos! There is no formal link in but you can share your finds on these three dates; June 29th, August 2nd & the roundup on September 30th at Patio Postcards.

The List:

1.       Something fuzzy
2.       Bubbles
3.       A web
4.       A zig zag
5.       A seasonal relaxing space/item
6.       A pipe
7.       The inside of something
8.       Rust or something derelict
9.       A kite or balloon
10.   Something Yellow
11.   A toy only found out during June to September
12.   A wedding
13.   A dome
14.   Someone fishing
15.   Something crafted from wood
16.   A baby (human or animal)
17.   Circles or crosses in architecture

Sharing my weekly finds

I am looking forward to the 2014 Summer Photography Scavenger Hunt.  I participated last year and had a great time driving around hunting for each of the challenges.  On the weekends the hubby and I went on short road trips, he drove while I snapped the photos.  Last year I was able to find all 21 challenges including the 2 bonus photos.  I have the list and found 2 of the photos yesterday.
#5:  A rack of postcards

#2: garden gnome
I also enrolled in the sequel to The Phone Photography Project over at Big Picture Classes.  This time last year I knew nothing about using my phone to edit photos.  It introduced me to a wide variety of phone apps to edit and take photos.   I am amazed at how much this one class changed the way I use my phone to take photos! looking forward to new discoveries this year.

The early blooming peonies and the Siberian iris came out this week.

My Fringe tree is gorgeous this year!

For reasons unknown, I love gloxinias. While waiting to pick up photos at the photo counter I noticed this beautiful purple one just sitting there on the counter.  I figure my angles had it deposited there just for me to find!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday

Here are my interpretations of the this week's items:

1. Doorway

It took 8 years to get up the gumption to paint the front door red.  Absolutely love it!  Wish we had it done sooner.

2. Candid

Allistair bathing in the warmth of the sun.

3. Open

As soon as you open the window the cats come out of the woodwork to indulge in some bird  & critter watching.

4. Look Up

Pandora (part Siamese) likes to be on top of the cabinets above the refrigerator. She can look on without any of the other cats, dog, or visitors knowing they are being watched.

5. Stuffed

A BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) croissant sandwich from Red Robin (YUM!)

Having fun scavenging for photos with Ashley at Scavenger Hunt Sunday.

2013 Summertime Photography Scavenger Hunt Final Check-in

I was able to find all 21 items plus the 2 bonus items!  This was so much fun that I hope to do it again.  I want to thank Maria "Rinda" Ontiveros over at Gallo Organico for hosting this event.

Scavenger Hunt Bonus Item: a person wearing an outfit (or item or clothing) that symbolizes your country
I had all but 3 photos so I had to “scavenge” this week to get those final three.  As luck would have it, it was recruiting week at the high school so during my lunch I sought out these wonderful Army recruiters.

Scavenger Hunt item #5 Sunset: Setting over a field of soybeans
My husband took me out for an after dinner drive so I could get this beautiful sunset photo.

#21 A photograph of you with an artistic tool or craft supply: Self portrait using my favorite journaling tool, Sakura Gelly Roll pens working in journal "A Language of Flowers".
This self-portrait was taken in my office early Saturday morning prior to watching U of M football.  I learned just how hard it is to hold the phone in my left hand at just the right angle while clicking photos.  I think I took about 10 before I finally said “done”.

Go HERE to view all 23 of my entries.  There are a few extra as I took more than one for several items on the list (just couldn't help myself).

Note:  All photos were taken solely by me between June 1st and September 21st of 2013 specifically for this Summertime Photography Scavenger Hunt.

Glue it Tuesday and More Scavenger Hunt photos

Gluebook:  Found papers
Last week I went on a cleaning spree; my desk, purse, and car were all targeted.  I clean out my purse and car on a fairly regular bases but my desk, well, that’s another post.  As I was cleaning I found all kinds of interesting pieces of paper that I had kept with the intention of adding them to an altered book or art journal page.  Then I got one of those Oprah “aha!” moments and this gluebook page was created.  Upon completion I thought it needed something but wasn’t sure what.  This morning I remembered I had these callout stickers sitting in my stash.  They added the perfect finishing touch!

Oh, the frustrating process of photo editing…  Getting the color corrected is my biggest challenge.  I am hoping this will solve itself when I get a new phone that has a better camera.

Item # 8: tower
For this photo I wanted something more aesthetically pleasing than a water or cell phone tower.  This clock tower was part of the Bay City, city hall.

Item #9:  Someone or something that is clearly out of place or doesn’t belong
I thought this would be the hardest item to find and within 1 week I have 3 photos!
I almost missed this one as I was so busy looking at the clouds (for item # 12: a cloud in the shape of something) that I almost missed this.  My husband had to turn the car around so I could take the picture.  At the edge of this hay field blooms a hollyhock, all by itself.  As I was taking the picture I noticed a bunch of them blooming up next to the house across the street.  A bird or the wind is probably the culprit for the seeds migrating into the field.

Same day, just a few miles from the hollyhocks we spotted these flag poles out in the middle of farmland.  Here were 5 flags in a corn field with no explanation as to why.  Yup, had to stop and take a photo of them!
Last week as I was entering the library I saw these snapdragons in full bloom in the crack between the sidewalk and foundation.  Obviously they were not planted there.  The seeds somehow got in the crack last year and found a way to sprout and bloom this year.  Even though I already had taken 2 pictures for this item I still had to snap this one.

Item #13: A fence
This was an easy shot as this fence runs alongside our house.  Cheating???  Perhaps but I HAD to sneak something U of M into one of my photos.

Item #14: A mosaic
I found this mosaic in the Flint Institute of Art.  I originally went in to purchase postcards for the postcard exchanged I belong to (I will explain this in a later post).  Spirit of Cultural Development was design by Edmund Lewandowski specifically for the FIA .

Item #16: a windmill
What a beautiful site!  As we were driving towards Bay City these wind turbines loomed on the horizon.

Item #19: A fisherman  Rogue River Dam, Rockford, Michigan.
Did not think I would find this one and I almost missed it.  I was so engrossed in snapping photos of the turtles sunning themselves on the rocks at the base of the dam that I didn’t see this guy fishing.

While the photo editing is giving me a headache, I am having a great time scavenging for the photos.  Go HERE to see the complete list.

Thank you for stopping by! Please leave a comment or a suggestion as to how I can improve this blog or my photo taking skills.

Catch-up Monday

Monday MugShot: red, white, & blue
I did not plan this photo this morning except I noticed that while I was doing my morning reading I was sitting at a red table cloth with a white candle, I only lacked something blue.  I poured my coffee in a blue mug and the theme was complete!

Several weeks ago I stumbled upon this photo challenge on Pinterest.  It immediately peaked my interest but my inner critic shouted, “You don’t know how to take good pictures”, and “You don’t know how to edit”…  I really wanted to try but that inner critic continued to make me doubt myself.   After turning it over for over a week I decided to take the plunge.

Giddy with excitement I spent the last two weeks photo hunting.  I've learned two things thus far:  If you stop looking for an item and just enjoy yourself, the item will pop up unexpectedly, and once you find the photo you are looking for, a second and possibly a third will present itself.
Editing is a problem for me, thus the reason for having not shared any of the photos I have taken.  I solved this problem by signing up for an online course, The Phone Photography Project.  Every day we are assigned a photo challenge and introduced to several different apps we can download on our phone to make photo editing easier and picture taking more fun.  I like the class but I let myself get behind and now I am playing catch-up.   After the course is completed I want to create a photo book like the ones offered at Snapfish.

Here are some of my photos for the scavenger hunt:

Item #1: Open air market
I took an afternoon driving around Flint, the Farmer’s Market was my first stop.  Easy first photo.

Item # 2:  Theater for performing arts
I took another afternoon to walk around downtown Flushing.  I actually forgot this was here!  I had already taken a photo of inside Bower Theater but with its empty stage it wasn't that interesting of a shot.

Item #3: City Hall
I had fun with this shot as a couple happened to have just gotten married when we pulled up to the Bay City, city hall.  I had just down loaded the app Picframes so I was able to create this collage.

Item #6: Someone or something taking a nap
Meet Alistair, my Flame point Siamese cat.  He often sleeps like this, covering up his eyes from the light.  Here he is napping in my office chair while I am working on my art journal.

Item #7:  A sign that is intentionally or unintentionally funny
Discovered this sign in Logger’s Depot in West Branch on our way back from a wine tour of Grand Traverse.  I found the idea behind the sign hysterical!

Item #10:  A bench that is outside
I had already taken a picture of this bench

when I stumbled upon this obviously neglected and unused one along the river walk in Flushing.

Spending tomorrow taking more photos and working on my editing skills.  Look for another post of my scavenger hunt finds.
