Stop Pinning and Make Something! Monthly Link Party: October

How many pins have you actually made from your Pinterest boards?  Our boards are full of inspirational ideas and projects we want to make "some day".   It’s time to Stop Pinning and Make Something!

Goal:

To get people creating!  Get out those paint brushes, that saw & sander, open the varnish, unpack your knitting needles or crochet hook!  Let’s make one of those pins sitting idle on your Pinterest boards. It can be as small as learning a new technique for creating ATC's to as big as making a garden shed!  Your pins are your limit.

Project: Altering a Clipboard

My Pinterest Board: Mixed media Mayhem
Pin:  Easy Altered Clipboard  by Creations By Christie

If you want a fun, rather fast project that isn't intimidating, this is it!

This project is one I have been longing to do.  Using a clipboard as a frame fulfills that desire I have to move away from the traditional and have that unusual piece that people talk about.    This tutorial shows how to alter just the clipboard.  Once that was completed and dried I moved on to adding the cabinet photo and decorating around it.
Note: I got out the soft Gel as a precaution but didn't use it.

I did have to purchase the glaze and Adirondack ink in rust but I plan to make more so it was worth the expense.  I purchased both online at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft , using a coupon, of course!

My left brain just couldn't handle ripping the tissue paper any old way.  I wanted certain parts of the design of the paper to be placed in specific spots on the clip board. This is me and how my brain works, if I were you I would follow the video and have fun ripping the tissue paper.

Note: The matte medium dries quickly so only place it in the area you are laying the paper.

I realized I did not take a shot of the finished front, only the back.

Rusting the clip

Here you can see some of the front.

Unfortunately, she did not show how to apply the finish to the clip only gave verbal directions.
I applied to the felt pad:

  • 2 drops silver
  • 8 drops rust
  • 6 drops black
  • 6 drops brown (she used Mushroom, I used Latte)
  • 2 large drops each: blending medium & glaze
I practiced on paper first!
Caution:  DO NOT open the inks over your clipboard.  Open them off to the side in case of leaking!
No, this didn't happen this time because I remember having done it previously and ending up with a mess! Lesson WELL learned!

Using Mixed Media to Finish It

I'm the type that when I have no idea what to do I simply start pulling ephemera out and have fun pulling things together.  Half of what I pull doesn't get used and I end up getting more out.  This is my unconventional style but it works for me!

I am not happy with the ribbon at the top but until something else comes to mind that would work better, the ribbon will stay.

Here i used crocheting thread to add texture.

I sprayed the finished clipboard with Perfect Pearls Mist in heirloom gold and distressed the edges with Distress ink in vintage photo before adding the ephemera.  You can see the effects in the corner.
