Creativity where art thou?

A Messy desk!  Yes, there it is.  This was early Saturday morning.  I find myself too exhausted to do much creating during the week so I have to work on my swaps during the weekend.  I am hoping things settle down once the 1st marking period is past and I get a rhythm to my day. You will notice sandpaper on my desk.  I was making an island ATC and needed sand.  I wish I lived closer to those of you who stamp as I truly needed your help that morning.  You can see the white cardstock with trees stamped on it several times.  I was trying to use the Le Plume markers with little success.

I have noticed that while I am creating, creativity itself hasn’t returned.   I feel like I’m just making things.   I don’t find myself getting lost in what I am doing.  Lost like when you look up at the clock and realize 3 hours have gone by but it only felt like 30 minutes.  THAT!  That is still missing.  I’m not truly happy with anything once it’s done.   Often I want to to throw whatever it is I just made into the trash.

Red ATC
I was so proud of myself for completing this particular ATC.   I was trying something new and was actually happy with the finished card when it was done.  Then I realized, I was supposed to make a rolo (rolodex card) not an ATC!  #$%&$%@*(expletive)

I had been putting off working in this journal because the person selected a thin paper journal and I wanted (needed) to paint.  I glued two pages together, laid on a heavy coat of gesso and painted.  Again, I never found myself lost while creating the page.  There was no flow or rhythm.  But I did paint.  As one of my blogging friends says, “Baby steps, my people.  Little tiny baby steps” (thank you Pam).

  2. How clever of you to use sandpaper for sand! I will have to go out and get some now. Your mojo will come back, it just takes time and don't be so hard on yourself. We all get it. #17

  3. ah, Diane thanks for popping over was surprised to read of your swapping with Coleen just found her through an OSA site.
... well done on stamping, looks pretty good... just an idea.. I think La Plume are water based markers and you need to huff (hold it close to your mouth and breath on them.. moisten it with your breath) on them to re-moisten the image again.. this should make them print really well.
Love the red atc's.. but not sure what a rolodex card is :D

  4. It may not have been what was needed - but I just LOVE that red ATC. It's wonderful, Diane - so alive, and so much fun. Take heart - you'll get there - just keep on plodding on. You have a lot on your plate at the moment, with school opening up again. From where I am sitting this morning, that stamping looks just fine. I trust you find enjoyment in it - personally, I always use watercolour pencils for colouring, then a little water to work the colours - can't colour in otherwise to save my life!!!
Thanks for visiting, and for your lovely comments. Csilla will keep both dresses, presumably. I have no idea what her plans for them are... Can't ask, as they are at last on their honeymoon...
    Take care. God bless.

  6. I think we are our own worst critics Diane, because I look at your work and I don't see the 'just enough' or 'lacking creativeness' qualities...I see some really clever and satisfying creations. The more you worry, the worse it'll be. Honestly, it doesn't matter if we're not turning out masterpieces every day - the world will still turn. Be kind to yourself.

  7. That ATC is lovely - just save it for another occasion. Try not to stress (easier said than done, I know) but that is the killer for ideas, for me. Once you get into the rhythm, as you say, things will settle down and start to flow. In the meantime, relax and enjoy what each day brings. Hugs, Chris # 34

  9. G'day there Diane. Just dropping by for WOYWW. I haven't played for a few months but remembered today. Oh you may not have felt lost in the moment when creating but it will happen. Besides I really like your "wrong" red ATCs and the journal pages too

  10. I am looking forward to finishing my sorting and organizing and getting to that "lost in creativity" place too! And I do that sort of thing all the time - think I have firmly in my head what it is that is needed then go off and do something completely different. Cool, yes, great piece, yes. Right as per the "instructions?" Not even remotely. DOH!

I like both the rolodex card and the ATC - this way you get to keep one... :)

    Happy WOYWW!

  11. Hang in there. So much of the time it is about doing the work until the creativity returns.

  15. Hi Diane. Sorry the muse is not visiting you. Try turning on some music... something that lets you clear your head of the gunk. I'm also agreeing with Carole. Sometimes we just try too hard. Pretend you're 4 and not suppose to be playing with those toys. ;-)
Your ATC and Rolodex card both came out lovely. Gesso is my friend. Creative Blessings! Kelly #67

  16. I totally get how the routine of the week needs to embed before you can free yourself up to craft...perhaps this is why you're feeling a bit stifled....at the weekend you 'need' to achieve finished stuff because you haven't got so much time to play?
Either way, be assured....this will pass. Ad you can go on playing with red as a celebration!!

  17. I am with you on the creativity and work etc, I used to be really bad when I was pushing myself for swaps all the time and then one day i thought, geez I am making this wonderful stuff for everyone else and nothing for me and then stopped swapping, it was the best thing to do. The creativity level improved and I started really enjoying myself again. give yourself a break and see how things go, then there is no pressure to get things done for others. I hope you get it all sorted, don't worry about the desk it will still be there tomorrow, that's if you can walk away and leave it without others sticking their 2 cents worth in and move things on you.

    Happy crafting and happy WOYWW

  18. Oh, I do hope you get back that you get back that 'immersed in the project' feeling soon, but the ATC is lovely nevertheless, even if it supposed to be something different.
Thanks for popping over to my place.

  19. Hi, I could feel your frustration oozing from the screen. It just doesn't work when you have to get certain things done. I'm sure you'll get your mojo back when there's less pressure.
Anyway, that ATC is stunning! I'm sure someone will want to swap it.
