Celebrating the arrival of the Spring Full Moon!

1.        The Full Worm Moon was given its name by the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior.

At the time of this spring Moon, the ground begins to soften and earthworm casts reappear, inviting the return of robins. In some regions, this is also known as the Sap Moon, as it marks the time when maple sap begins to flow and the annual tapping of maple trees begins.

2.      I find myself in a place of discouragement this week.  A student threatened me after she got suspended for repeated cell phone violations and I learned a formed student was gunned down and killed   Truthfully, I foresaw this in his future, this or prison, because he simply refused to listen or change.  His education on the streets each night far outweighed anything I could ever teach him.  Still, while battling every day to get my students to learn, I can’t help but think, why bother?  I’m working harder to get them an education than they are.  Disheartening…

3.      While the evenings are lighter, starting my day in the dark and not being able to see daylight until 3:00 (when the school day ends) is draining.  14 days until spring break!

4.      In my search for a colorful, spring-like coffee mug, I stumbled upon this guy.

5.      How is it that felines always seem to know when photos are being taken?   Lately, it seems I have more shots of them photobombing than good shots!

I apologize for my lack of optimism in this week’s post.  It has been a difficult week.  Hard as try, my day as a teacher seeps into every fiber of my being.  This is the price for working in an inner city school.  Any encouraging quote, poem, or story that you can share would be appreciated.

  7. My kitties aren't very cooperative when it comes to getting a good photo! Like yours, they would rather photo bomb. Take care and I hope that next week will be a good one for you! You ARE making a difference in many of those young lives.

  8. So sorry to hear about your difficult week. I hope and pray that this shall all pass soon. Remember why you stepped into this field of teaching and hang on to that because even though you have a tough time with one or several students, you are still making a difference in others. :) Keep your chin up. (easier said than done, right?) Sending lots of love and light your way.

  11. Ohhhhh don't ever apologize for not "feeling optimistic". That is so scary to be threatened. I'm an instructional aide at an elementary school and sadly we can peg as early as 2nd grade what their life is going to be like. We hear through the grape vine how right we were once they hit their teen years. It's really sad- hang in there. Teachers have it tough. Don't give up. Xo

  14. I hope this coming week will be a better one for you! I believe you did your best for your students. You might not reach all of them, but if you touch just one then that's a great reward.

  15. I have the same problem taking pictures of Fergus, our dog. He sees the camera, his ears lay down and he turns his head. Enjoyed the moon shots!
