WOYWW?: Winter Blues

This is the way I left my desk yesterday.   I started working on my Winter Blues art journal.  The idea for this came last year and I have been stowing away bits for it since.  The journal will incorporate all things blue or winter: postcards, cards, photos, ATC’s, magazine clippings, ephemera and winter quotes.

When I begin a journal I like to sort things into various piles so I know what I have:

These are the pages I created yesterday.  The photos were taken last winter, the garden deep in snow.  Good thing I took them as this year I would have had to change the color of the journal to greenish brown blues!

Today is our day to take down and put away all the Christmas things.  A job neither my husband nor I enjoy but we like having it done before the New Year.  Unlike most years, I did not hit the after Christmas sales.  We are at a point where we are paring down, limited ourselves to only what we need or enjoy, or in the case of lights, what works.

New Year’s Day I will be watching football and getting my year organized.  Annually, this is the day I sit down with the 2016 calendars, writing in all the birthdays.  I make lists of things I want to accomplish during the year.  I joined the Documented Life Project once again this year.  They are going back to their original roots, creating a planner, something I want to get back into.  I dropped out after 2 months this year because I wasn’t documenting my life, it was more of a practice in using various art journaling techniques.  Not why I joined.  My hope is that getting back into using a planner I will be more organized, an ongoing battle I have with myself.

What about you, how do you spend New Year’s Day?  Do you take time to organize your year with a beautiful planner or organizer? Do you make lists of things you want to get done over the year?

Note: I’m in need to blue die cuts if you happen to have any in your stash.  Snowflakes, frames, flourishes, circles, ovals, rectangles, tags, anything you might have would be welcomed.  Also fun ephemera.  You can contact me via the CONTACT tab at the top of the blog.

Joining up with What’s on Your Workdesk? Wednesday where desk snooping is not only allowed but all part of the fun!

  1. The Blue Journal sounds fun. I'm at the stage of life when making lists, and plans just isn't what I want to do any more.I used to teach, and I'd make lists goals, plans, programmes.Ugh!! I still have a list each day, but it only has a few things on it. I'll be swing in the New year, and raising a glass or two!

  4. Will be a fun project...and WINTER is a great time to work on your theme. I don't many far ahead plans...it's week by week, and I jot down ideas as they come along or I totally space it off...Process of age or as DH says it's all DOB. I'm leaving my decor up til end of January as I enjoy the twinkling lights and the winter theme. Time's too long inside here with winter blasts and I enjoy my winter decor. Too busy getting ready for the holidays to enjoy the end result. Wishing You and Yours the Happiest NEW YEAR...enjoyed by good health, love and enjoying all the things you love to do

  6. Fab "blue" journal idea...you are certainly organised and planning your projects in advance . Might have to take a leaf out of your planner and try to use a diary/planner myself - so I've one day to go find one. Enjoy your day, mine will be spent with family and a relaxing day. 7. Hi Diane, love the idea of a 'blue' journal. Unfortunately over here, really wintery pictures are hard to come by- we tend not to get much snow, and indeed the last few years have seen very little frost and ice.Have a great week, and a Happy, peaceful New Year from us to you & yours. Hugs, Shaz #28 xxxx

  9. love blue and love look of your journal. I sort out my calendar on New Years Day but decorations don't come down until 6th January. I don't put them up until late so like to enjoy them for as long as possible :-) especially the tree and lights. Happy New Year Anne x #17

  12. Happy to hunt down some blue hits for you, what a fab idea. I do admire that you've collected so much before starting, I'm so impatient that this wouldn't have occurred to me! New Year is very quiet here, I've annotated the diaries and calendars, done the month end for the business and I decorated the house. I feel ready if not party animal-ish! Happy New Year!

  15. Hello Diane. What great pages created from last year's photos. As you say - different colours this year! I do trust all is well with you and work? I've not been around much this autumn/winter due to John's ill health, so have missed a lot of folk. Sorry!
Take care as we move into 2016. God bless you.

  16. awesome winter journal...love the blues over the greenish browns. I am in the craftroom trying to get away from the latest football game today. I am writing in events in the journal and hopefully will get it all done between checking on scores and websurfing. Happy New Year! Vickie #46

  17. I like how you organize your journals around different subjects - you must have at least half a dozen on the go at any given time! I was toying with the idea of DLP for 2016, having dropped out of 2015 at around the same time you did, but I have so much going on that, realistically, I won't be able to keep up. And I'm not much of a planner either, though I would like to be. Maybe next year. Thank you for visiting earlier. Wishing you a very successful and happy New Year!

  18. Well my NY Day was spent organising the house in readiness for my annual holiday in America. Hence my being so very late again in commenting.
Love the idea of your blue journal - lovely pictures.
