WOYWW: New art journal

My creative desk had a visitor this week.  Kiri is sitting on a newly created art journal.  To her left is a stack of table napkins I am gluing onto the pages.  To the right is a pile of remnants I will later use in other projects or journals.  Kiri is not a social cat but she has been visiting more often lately.  Sometimes she decides to stay...

Her idea of "helping" and mine are obviously a little different.  It's difficult to glue in an art journal with a cat laying on top of it.

New art journal

Sometimes ideas for art journals appear out of nowhere and my mind just won't let go of it until I create it.  This is what happened when I caught a glimpse on Pinterest of an art journal page created using a table napkin.  An idea instantly formed in my head to create a journal using my hoard collection of napkins.  After several days my mind just wouldn't let go of the idea.  Giving in, I sorted through pulling out 40 that I received in swaps or purchased and began gluing them in.  Two glue sticks later, I have a new 40 page art journal I have no idea what I am going to do with!

Here are a few of the pages:

Do you have any suggestions as to what to do with this now?

Veterans Day

My husband’s niece interviewed me over the weekend for a paper she had to write about a veteran.  She asked for some photos as well.  I thought you might get a kick out of seeing them.

  3. Wow, what a great idea to make an instant journal!! I love all the different napkins...it doesn't matter of you don't use it straightaway....actually, it would make a great present for someone!

  4. WoW! I don't look at napkins this way, perhaps I should! I do buy nice ones, but I cant admit to hoarding them individually. Perhaps I will save you one f each packet I open for your next journal!

  5. Love the kitty pic and can see the difficulty you had with her sitting on your desk. Love the idea of using the napkins for journal backgrounds. Now I am sure I have a stash hidden away in my craft cupboard. Have a lovely week.

  10. Ha Ha I permanently seem to craft with a cat sitting in the middle of what I'm trying to do, they just love to be in don't they.

  11. I did the same thing with my gelli prints! I made a journal where each page was covered with a gelli print front and back and I have no idea what to do with it either! But I like just looking at it and handling it! Sometimes we don't need a higher purpose, just enjoy it the way it is! Fun photos! You must have been so young! Have a lovely week! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #39

  12. What a beautiful journal. I expect you will just be looking at it for now and handling it (or stroking even) as it is absolutely beautiful. Please don't cover it with gesso!
Thanks for posting those photos. What era are we talking about? The Korean war was too long ago surely... (I have no idea how old you are).
    Have a great week,

  14. Ah, a cheeky helper! Hope she didn't get sticky paws.
I have a problem with layering things over things that are already pretty. I'm sure a true Mixed Media artist would tell you to carry on layering.

  16. Kiri is a lovely cat. Pleased my dogs can't jump on the desk, though Maisie is good at sitting on the carpet right in front of where I stand. Have a great woyww and happy crafty week, Angela x 21

  18. Ha ha! You got me in with the cat on the desk pics! SO cute! Lucky she didn't soak up some random glue and end up as a feature on one of your pages. I too have a napkin hoard, oh, sorry, collection :) More than I could ever hope to use.
