Stop Pinning & Make something! – April link party

This month I created several different pins from my Pinterest boards.

 Cracked Glass ATC’s

Experimenting with this technique turned out to be fun and therapeutic. The only thing I had to purchase was extra thick embossing powder.
Special thanks goes to Beate Johns at Splitcoasterstampers.  The technique and video can be found HERE.

I wanted a watercolor look so I decided to use a stamped image with watercolor pencils. For the ATC on the left I used STazOn in dove gray thinking it would be better not to see the stamped image.  Deciding it needed more definition I went with StazOn in jet black, seen on the right.
I followed her directions and when done with the layers of embossing this is what my card looked like:

I put it in the freezer for about a minute, removed and carefully began cracking it.
I tried adding ink to get the cracks to show more but this step did not work out for me. The ink did not go into the crack and I ended up with ink everywhere but in the cracks!

I created 7 ATC's altogether, one using watercolor paper instead of white card stock. I had a difficult time judging when to stop adding layers of embossing powder.  These 3 did not turn out and became throwaways.
1st & 2nd cards I thought cracked too much; 3rd one I made too thick
These were the keepers.  Three of them went out to swap partners.

This one will be given away randomly to someone who adds their link to this month's link party!

DYI Scrap Paper Postcards

I wanted to make some RAK's post cards for one of the swap groups I belong to  I stumbled on
THIS pin in my  ATC & PC Inspiration board. The original post was by Crafty Musings by Hagit.
I wanted as many PC's as I could get from one sheet of paper so I used a 12 x 12 card stock scrapbook sheet.
Using scraps from my scrap box and soft gel medium, I covered the entire sheet.  It started to warp so I sandwiched it between waxed paper then piled heavy books on it over night.  The next day I stamped various images then cut it into 4 x 6 postcards.  I used old file folders as a backing.   To give them a finished look I inked the edges with Distress Ink in picked raspberry, added some deco tape in several colors then as a finishing touch used gold tinted modeling paste through a stencil.
The next morning when I looked at them they seems a little plain so I added the Happy Mail with a pink paint pen and dots using turquoise glitter glue.

This is a fun, inexpensive way to share some art with friends or family.  It is not time consuming or fussy. Actually, it is rather therapeutic!

Get Cooking!

This next pin can be found in my Yummy! Meals board.  Panko Crusted Deviled Turkey Breast originally came from FROM MY CAROLINA HOME.

No changes had to be made.  I followed her directions and it turned out scrumptiously!

The hubby had seconds at dinner then took some for his lunch the next day.  A HUGE hit!  I will definitely be making this again.

  5. What a super crackling effect. It looks lovely with the water-colours, and would be a great technique for card-making. I may try using it with some of my dried flowers and see how they turn out. Thanks for sharing it with us Diane. It's a wonderful piece of inspiration. All the best, Bonny
