What doesn't belong in this picture?

Remember those pictures in the Highlight magazine where you circled what was out of place in a picture?  Can you guess what is out of place in this photo?  I got tired of taking down the heavy bin of paints and decidedly left them on the floor without realizing I was leaving a space for Allistair to climb.  It only took him a day or so to notice it before jumping up to investigate.

In this photo I was working on my One Little Word notebook, playing catch up.  I joined a different type of series of swaps, Do More Art PROJECT.  It is more of a commitment rather than swapping art.  One commits to doing one art project (big or small) that month.  When completed you share with your partner photos of your accomplishment.  For January I committed to starting and completing the January assignment for my One Little Word.

I am asking for your help and advice for this month’s commitment.   I have been rolling around the idea of starting a link party on my blog called "Stop Pinning and Make Something!” The idea is to get people creating something rather than simply saying, “Oh, I’d like to make that”, pin it then forget about it. I want people to select one idea from their board, make it, then share their photos of the completed project along with any trials and errors they had along the way.  I will host it once a month, starting on the 1st of each month.

I held back for fear no one would join. I am going to launch it March 1st with a giveaway from the first thing I make from one of my pins.  I have NO CLUE as to how to get started or advertise it.  This is where you, dear blogging friends, come in.  I am asking you to share any advice, input or blog friends who may be able to impart advice for this undertaking.

Sharing our creative, and often messy, work spaces with What’s on Your Workdesk? Wednesday.

  1. That sounds like a great idea, Diane. We all need a bit of a push to turn our good intentions into something tangible. I wonder if promoting it on the Google + network might work. Perhaps you could set up a community page which would come up when people did subject-matter searches.
Great shot of Allistair sitting on the shelves looking as though he totally lives up there. Very handsome chap.
Very best of luck with your great new idea. All the best, Bonny

  2. sorry I cant give you any advice but it sounds like a great idea. I hope your cat doesnt manage to knock anything off the shelves, he thinks he`s King of the Castle! I love the look on his face.

  3. YES! I have my own little page on my blog where I post things I've done inspired by Pinterest and I'm lagging for sure. I do waaaay more pinning than making - I would participate! Your cat is hilarious!

  4. LOVE it! Of course, being a cat lover, I found him right away! My cat also loves to come into my room, although she stays low to the floor - that's where her toys are! Meaning of course, everything that accidentally falls to the floor! She is a real paper cat and walks around with bits of paper in her mouth all the time! Your idea is awesome, and is something I started to do a few months ago, but then only did once! Having a commitment to do it would be good! Lindart #59

  5. Love your King of the craft room! Mine would be up high too if there was a spot. She has settled for a desk and/or an empty box. :) Love the idea of linking up our makes based on a pinned idea! Sorry I don't know how to add the linky guy to your blog. Maybe Julia will offer some advice. Hugs and Happy WOYWW! Nan G #62

  6. Hi Diane! Thank you for your visit to my blog. You're quite right gilding wax is the same as metallic rub - I hate using it because of the smell but I love the results it produces! I immediately spotted Allistair on the shelf - looking very aristocratic - perfect name for him by the way! Such a pretty kitty! I love your idea of a link party. I like linking up whenever I can - it's just that there's not always time to prepare something especially. I ran a link party up until recently, which started out as a weekly thing, then it became monthly because I found it too demanding to prepare a new project on a weekly basis. Now I've found the monthly commitment was too much too because of my other ongoing projects and classes. It's not easy to make something popular, unless you have a lot of followers. WOYWW could most certainly help spread the word. I will happily post it on my Facebook page and G+ profile and if other people did the same, it could go 'viral'. Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #27

  8. Thanks for popping by and your lovely comments on my wrecked journal. I'm a nightmare for over committing myself to things and a butterfly brain doesnt help as I flit from one thing to another.

  11. Hello and I spotted Allistair before seeing anything else. he's handsome. Your idea sounds great. I would definitely be interested in joining in. I'm afraid I have no idea how you go about it though. I don't do Google + don't really know much about it. Anne x #30

  12. What a pretty kitty. I saw him right away. I have no advice on how to advertise a link party. From observation of friends..it seems to start really slow and sometimes takes off or not. I do pin things ALOT and then forget..but I go back and look occasionally if I am stumped on a idea :) Shel #45 WOYWW

  13. Of course the kitty belongs on your shelf! It was the heavy box that did not! LOL When my cats were younger I would find them in the most difficult spaces on my shelves... now they are old and fat and barely make it onto the bed! Great idea for the link party! I suggest you ask someone who is already doing one how to start? Sorry can't help beyond that as I have never done one either.

  14. Well, I'm not sure what doesn't belong, but I'm absolutely sure the kitty Does. :-) Cats are excellent supervisors, you know. ;-)

    Happy creating and happy woyww,

  16. I find its easier to complete something when I know I have a home for it. Then it kinds of pushes me to get it done. I also post completed pictures of the stuff I finish on my craft blog so it reminds me when I'm feeling like I don't get stuff done of what motivated me in my more productive times.

  17. Such a cute shot, and to me, every thing looks perfectly normal here! You always have to wonder though how kitties get in such places without wreaking complete havoc! cute capture

  18. One handsome dude is Alistair who wouldn't miss him, he seems like a cheeky man, did I day handsome. This is something dear Yoda can not do, he can't jump up, it was his former life of abuse that now restricts him. Like the idea of 'make it' and the first of the month is good as I am in billing and pay's mode but it might work as I have the whole month. I will participate where I can. Goodluck and give Alistair a pat for me.

    Hugs Eliza & Yoda

  20. Allistair looks like he has always belonged in that spot. Hopefully it is easy up and easy down, without trailing any other goodies with him. Great idea, and good luck. Happy WOYWW

  21. Hmmmm are you saying that kitty doesn't belong. I think you are wrong, it looks quite comfy there.

  22. What a perfect kitty nook - good designing there! :-)

  23. Our cats used to find the smallest, highest spaces to fit themselves. Miss them! I like your idea to stop pinning and start doing. Sounds like a great plan. Guess I should go pick something out.

  24. Hi Diane,

I'm not here for WOYWW, but because you won my mixed media art from my "Grow Your Blog" giveaway. Had to laugh about Allistair, though. A good reason why I don't allow mine in my craft room.

Anyway, as soon as I have your e-mail address, my friend Linda will send you an e-mail from me requesting your snail mail address. I was so glad to draw your name, because I remembered you said you wanted to add stitches to your art this year. You might remember the piece I am sending you. It's the mixed media and sewing piece I showed on my Grow post that I call "Her colorful ways." Hope you like it. Please let me know how to contact you and please do so on a current post, since I don't get e-mails letting me know I have new comments.

  25. I love your kitty! And I think he definitely DOES belong! I, too, have been contemplating hosting a linky party, and I also don't know how. We are two of a kind, aren't we? If you get some good advice or instruction, would you share it so those of us who want to do this can learn from it too? Please, please, please?
