The creative mess.
I woke up early this morning and celebrated the first day of spring break by playing in my Listen to My Heart journal with the new Distress Oxide inks. I felt intimidated after seeing completed cards, tags, and journal spreads on various blog posts. I gained some confidence after watching this excellent video, Introduction to Distress Oxide Inks. I grabbed the spray bottle, wilted violet, broken china, fossilized amber, and peeled paint and got started.
I chose the splattered effect for the heart:
Adding some splatters of worn lipstick along with stamped touches of vintage photo:
I wanted to incorporate Art Journal Journey's new theme, MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR so I dug out the Tim Holtz stamp and dies set THE JOURNEY, It's a Small World Latitude Stencil, Compass Rose Stencil, and map scrapbook paper and put this page together. A fabulous way to kick off spring break!
What I learned:
- I need to invest in the Tim Holtz distress sprayer to get the full effect of these inks. My travel size cosmetic sprayer didn't work with them.
- The inks do not blend well on the Dylusions Creative Journal paper, even when using the blending tool. I found the ink did not glide across the paper, instead it left distinctive circles of color then spots with less ink rather than blending.
Have you invested in these new inks? What have you learned about using them?
Your page is just AMAZING! Congrats on the new inks - you will get the best out of them soon for sure, I can see that many bloggers have them now and enjoy them. No I don't think I will purchase Distress Oxide Inks, I am happy with all my already horted stuff.
ReplyDeleteNo new goodies for more. I am so happy to see you again at Art Journal Joureny Diane! Thank you very much for joining in!
I wish you a happy Sunday and a good start into the new week and looking forward to seeing more of your playing with Distress Oxides!

Ink issues or not, I still like your page a lot. The colors are wonderful. I'm ready for some spring travel. Can't wait to see where you go. Hugs erika
ReplyDeleteA wonderful page, the colours are lovely, I've got some distress oxides but I've not had time to play with them yet.

I love your page There's so much of interest; brilliant.
ReplyDeleteA lovely page and I love your bucket list. The distress oxides take some getting used to, they seem to need more water than the ordinary ones. I will try them on the Dylusion paper.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful page
ReplyDeleteYour page is so wonderful. I am new at creating art journal pages so I don't know much about all the great items that one can buy for their art journals. I am just making whatever I have work for me.
