Don't throw that away! Instead, Play!

January Theme: Use something that would have been thrown away
Using pictures from last year's calendar given to me by my mom because she didn't have the heart to throw it away.  I put it aside as I had no use for it either but the pictures were just too pretty for the trash.  I gave myself a deadline: if I hadn't used it by January 31st, it had to go into the recycle bin!  I retrieved tissue paper used to wrap a an Etsy purchase and a brown kraft envie already thrown in the trash.

Playing with Distress paints and newly acquired POSCA paint pens, I put this spread together quickly without much thought.  I love playing with these paints!  So different from how I paint on the weekends.  I enjoy being able to give the tube a squeeze then spread paint using the dabber.  No thinking needed.

Not how I usually paint but it fulfilled my need to create after another day of dealing with state mandated testing and uncooperative students. Playing with paint allows me to let go of the day.
This still needs a little something more but for right now I will leave it.  The great thing about having a Play art journal is you can always go back to finish playing with a spread later.

Playing with color and paint along with Carolyn Dube’s Let’s Play at A Colorful Journey.  Won’t you play along with us?

  1. I used to collect calendars for my classes - and still have lots. What a lovely journal spread.

  3. Lovely spread Diane. It is nice that the process of making our art takes our mind away from our woes.

  4. Amazing page made from stuff destined for the bin! I laughed when you wrote you literally took them out of the bin, LOL! How much nicer to make art with them than send them landfill!

  5. After seeing your PPF post above (that's what brought me here) I had to take a peek at the rest of your blog. I love your art. And I love that you used something bound for the trash to create a beautiful page.
