Get up. Get Dressed. Paint.

Getting back into my painting practice with Rae Missigman’s 15 MINUTES OF MIXED MEDIA©. I found it difficult to pick up the routine of painting  after being away on vacation for 2 weeks.   I simply wasn’t feeling it.  My schedule was discombobulated, not allowing me to feel the anticipation of gettingraising out of bed while the house was quiet, getting out the paints then tuning out the world for an hour or so.  I’m comforted knowing that she goes through this as well.  It’s all about showing up, getting the paint on the paper and letting go if you don’t like it.  I remind myself the next week is another page, another chance to create.

What I learned

Ø  Adding paint to a stamp then stamping it onto the page adds texture. And it’s okay if the image gets blurred if there is too much paint in one area.

Ø  I can paint with Dylusions Spray Ink by spritzing a small amount into my craft sheet then adding a small amount of water.  It adds a splash of intense color which draws the eye in.

Textured Journal

After being away from my craft room for two weeks I felt the need to create in my art journal but lacked inspiration.  When this happens I go to my Inspiring Art Journal Pages board on Pinterest.   I remembered THIS art journal tutorial by Marta Lapkowska.  Simple, not complicated and didn’t involve having to wait for layers to dry.  It was exactly what I needed to get back into creating.

Joining Paint Party Friday where having paint under the fingernails is the norm.  What colors are under yours?

  1. I love your journal pages and the words you used on them. They convey such an important message. I too had a hard time getting back to my creative world after vacation. I gave myself a few days and now it seems things are back to normal. I think it is part of the creative process.
Thank you for your comments today on my blog. As a retired teacher, I know exactly what you experienced. I used to go back and do workshops on teaching strategies. Now, I offer workshops to teachers on remembering to take care of yourself while taking care of all of your students.
    Have a great week.

  4. Oh I hear you! So often we either can't to the page, or when we're there it's not happening as expected! Oh but when it does...the feeling is such jubilation! Your pages are beautiful with a powerful message!! Just keep going it eventually shows up to meet you...such a sweet spot when that happens too!!

  5. these are fantastic pages!! I especially like the second one. I was away two weeks and had a hard time starting up again too -but only because I was pulled into family dramas that needed my attention and then when I had a few minutes I was too tired(mentally) to do anything. Life happens and you just have to go with it-it's the only thing you can do, and when inspiration strikes again-it's the best!

  7. What an inspiring page. And thank you for letting us know that we are not alone in getting going some days. Fatigue can be a big demotivater. And sometimes it is just a season of life. Good for you for knowing where to find inspiration to get the spark lit again. :-)
